TARGETCANCER FOUNDATION GALA SPOTLIGHT: A FUTURE FASHION MOGUL

Leading up to the 8th Annual TargetCancer Foundation Gala, we will be sharing stories and perspectives on the gala from many of the people who make up the TargetCancer Foundation community. 

In this post, Lauren (age 12) talks about using her “Day as a Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Designer in New York” item that she won in the 2016 gala auction. 

When my mom asked me to write about seeing Tommy Hilfiger’s design center I didn’t know how to put such a fabulous experience into words.

My mom and I arrived around 10 A.M. not knowing what to expect. Kathleen welcomed us with open arms. She introduced us to our guide for the day, one of the head designers for the women’s line. Little could we imagine what the day held in store for us.

Our first stop was the handbags, which were amazing. The handbag designers showed us their newest line and gave me tips on designing my own bags. We then went to the virtual show room and saw how buyers will be able to look at all of the options available to them using many, many tv screens. Our tour continued to the Gigi line, then Tommy Hilfiger’s real office and finally lunch. We went to People’s Place which is the cafe in the building.  It is also the name of Hilfiger’s first shop.

After getting refueled we met the jean designer. We also met the men’s and children’s clothing designers. After visiting with a few more of the women’s designers we went on to the technology part. We saw how they could create or change patterns using computer graphics.

Our last stop was visiting the creators of the clothing line for children and adults with disabilities.  The clothing looked the same as everything else I saw except they had magnets under the buttons for easy closure. They even created magnetic zippers. My mom and I left Tommy Hilfiger with a lot of memories that we will never forget.
